Collaborative Family Practice

What is collaborative practice?

Collaborative family practice is an innovative approach to resolving the problems that arise from relationship breakdowns. In this voluntary process, an interdisciplinary team of trained experts — lawyers, financial professionals, family mediators and psychotherapists — works together with the couple to reach a mutually agreeable and amicable dissolution of the relationship.

For the legal component of collaborative family practice, the two individuals and their respective (independent) lawyers agree to avoid the traditional adversarial approach and to use collaborative strategies to avoid going to court.

Susan's expertise:

Since Susan's use of emotionally focused couples therapy looks at the dynamics between the partners rather than assigning blame, collaborative practice is fully aligned with her approach to psychotherapy. She has been trained in the principles of collaborative family practice, and works together as appropriate with lawyers, family mediators and financial advisors to provide her clients with a 'team approach' to collaborative family practice.

Susan’s works in the area of collaborative family practice can be initiated by the couple directly, or by a lawyer. For details, click on the appropriate link below:
