Family TherapySusan believes that all families operate as a 'system' where each member plays a significant role in the triumphs — and struggles — of the family as a whole. In her experience, families entering therapy usually believe that one member is 'the one' causing the family dilemma, and feel stuck trying to 'fix' the person they have identified as 'the problem.' Despite their continuing struggle, they have found few solutions and gained little relief from the chaos they believe this one member has brought to the family. Who it's for:For families struggling with difficult dynamics arising from such factors as:
How Susan can help:Susan uses family systems therapy in working with families — both as a group and individually — to examine the ongoing family issues and behaviours that have brought them to therapy. Although she views the family as a whole, she joins with the family in seeking to understand what each individual contributes and sets-up in the family system. In this unique manner, Susan can intervene with each member, and the family as a whole, to foster the desired change. Desired outcome:The aim is to provide family members with alternative means of interaction, different and more productive ways of living together, and an opportunity (at last) for harmony within the family structure. |
